What to Expect
Free Initial Evaluation At your first visit to Family Orthodontics you will be greeted by our friendly staff. If you have not downloaded and completed the new patient questionnaire you will then be provided one to fill out. This form gives us your name, address, insurance information, and your medical and dental history. After completing the new patient questionnaire you will then get a chance to meet Dr. West who will conduct a basic clinical exam of your face, jaw, teeth, and gums. After that exam you and the doctor will then be able to determine if orthodontics is right for you. Diagnostic Records Appointment After your initial evaluation you will be scheduled for a diagnostic records appointment. Diagnostic records are made to determine the best course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records typically include digital study models of the teeth, photos of the patient's face and teeth, and X-rays. If you have a recent panoramic X-ray from a previous dental visit you may not need to have another one taken. When your records are complete this information is used to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of your treatment as the teeth move throughout your orthodontic care. Consultation Appointment After the doctor has evaluated your records, we will discuss your treatment with you in detail, including the cost for your particular case. Bonding/Banding Appointment The bonding/banding appointment is when you get your appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) and usually takes from one to two hours. While we will try and accommodate you, lengthy appointments are typically scheduled in the morning or early afternoon. Regular Appointments Once you have your appliances you will then see us at regular intervals 4 to 8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. Our regular office hours are Monday - Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, kindly give us 24 hours notice. |
